Anita Camacho, President and Founder of Tampa Bay Butterfly Foundation, Inc, and North American Butterfly Association – Tampa Bay chapter. TBBF and NABA Tampa Bay work together at the state and/or local level to conserve butterflies and to educate the public about the importance of butterflies (and other pollinators).

Anita is a Florida native to the Tampa Bay area, married to Marc Camacho and together they are raising 4 adults (teenagers). She considers herself an amateur Lepidopterist. She has participated with three different Universities on studies for advancement of science on the Monarch butterfly and their host plants. She has traveled all over the US, Canada and to Kenya to further her education on Lepidoptera for conferences and other educational opportunities. She is an avid gardener for over 40 years and specifically gardening for butterflies, pollinators and roses but also gardens for edibles throughout her landscape.

She has served on the executive board and treasurer of Tampa Federation of Garden Club Circles-and a member of two of Tampa’s Garden Club Circles – Rose and Moonlight, currently the treasurer for Tampa Green Fest and the committee chair for Kids in the Garden Summer Camp at Tampa Garden Club. She is an active member of International Association of Butterfly Exhibitors & Suppliers (IABES), International Butterfly Breeders Association (IBBA), Lepidopterists’ Society, Southern Lepidopterists’ Society, Florida Native Plant Society-Suncoast Chapter, Xerces Society, Audubon Society – Tampa, USF Botanical Gardens, Florida State and Tampa Bay Beekeepers Associations, Tampa Rose Society, and American Rose Society. Her home gardens were on the Rose Circle annual garden tour in South Tampa with record attendance of over 900 visitors in 2016. For more fun, she became a Beekeeper through the USF program in 2018. She has been an accredited American Society consulting rosarian for more than 15 years and was a certified rose show judge.

She is a graduate from Land O’ Lakes High School and earned her undergraduate degree at The University of Tampa. Professionally, a CPA in Tampa for over 25 years and has her own accounting firm in South Tampa for over 10 years.

Anita offers education, outreach and butterfly talks for numerous groups such as Dade City Garden Club, Rose Circle Garden Club, Moonlight Garden Club, Deland Garden Club – Milkweed Garden Circle, Native Plant Society – Citrus Chapter, Corbett Preparatory Middle School Butterfly Club, and Coleman Middle School Great American Teach In.
